In November 2023, founder Leif K-Brooks announced that Omegle was closing after nearly 14 years. The site that made talking to strangers famous went offline.
Why it closed
In his farewell note, the founder pointed to the growing strain of misuse and the heavy cost and difficulty of keeping an anonymous platform safe. Running a free, open service at that scale had become unsustainable.
