What to Do If a Chat Goes Wrong: Blocking, Reporting, and Moving On

Meet enough strangers and eventually one will be rude, creepy, or just off. It happens to everyone, and it is not a reflection on you. What matters is knowing how to handle it quickly so you can get back to the good conversations. Here is a simple plan.

Leave first, think later

You do not need to finish the conversation, respond, or explain yourself. The moment a chat makes you uncomfortable, skip or close it. Your comfort comes before politeness to a stranger.

Report what you saw

Reporting takes a few seconds and helps keep the community safe for everyone. If someone was abusive, harassing, or shared something they should not have, report them before you move on.

Do not engage with provocation

Some people say shocking things just to get a reaction. The best response is no response. Skipping denies them exactly what they want and costs you nothing.

Take a breather if you need one

If a chat rattled you, it is fine to step away from the screen for a few minutes. There is no rush to jump straight into the next conversation.

Remember it is not your fault

You cannot control who you get matched with, only how you respond. Handling a bad chat by leaving and reporting is exactly the right move, every time.
