Double Texting: When It Is Fine and When to Stop

Double texting has a bad reputation, but the rule is not as strict as people think. A second message can be perfectly fine, or it can dig a hole. The difference is how and when you do it. Here is the breakdown.

When it is totally fine

Remembered something you meant to say? Have a genuinely fun thought to add? A single, relaxed follow-up is friendly, not needy. Confident people double text without a second thought.

When to hold back

If your first message went unanswered, resist sending are you there style pileups. Stacking messages onto silence is where double texting goes wrong.

Keep the tone easy

A double text should never carry pressure. Light and low-stakes reads as warmth. Anxious or demanding reads as, well, anxious and demanding.

Read the pattern

One unanswered follow-up is fine. Three in a row is a sign to step back. Pay attention to whether the other person is actually engaging before you send more.
